Fall to winter season change
Original Footage
For this shot, I wanted to do a seasonal change from fall to winter. First, I had to use a keylight node to remove the red color from the shot and also to extract an alpha from it. I then used that alpha to isolate the right side of the footage, which was resisting my adjustments to the hue correct and grade nodes. Without corrections, it would create digital artifacts in the footage. So after that was fixed, I then saturated the color a little more to give the scene a more of a winter look. I then added more grade nodes and hue correct nodes to help make the tree’s brown color pop out like they do in winter time. I also did the same thing to the right side hill, again to help make the darker values stick out. The next thing I did was I added a roto node to the script and rotoscoped the street. This allowed me to add some blue values to the pavement which gave it the "wet street" look. Next I added the snow particles effect in Nuke to create the falling snow effect. For the snow particles systems, I ended up making two of my own scripts. In each script I had different values in each particles emitter nodes, directional force nodes, drag nodes, turbulence nodes, and particle bounce nodes. I also used the Nuke snow box node to help further enhance the snow effect. In the snow box node, I changed the values to help give the falling snow a stronger more realistic feel. To get the final look I added a few last details including an increased grain into the overall footage, an added lens distortion node, and a keyer node for greater realism.
